June 4th

Filled fuel tank, one gallon at a time to check reserve and calibrate tank sight gauge.  Fabricated gauge...

June 9th

The prop was delivered today, so I spent a little time mounting it to the engine.  Also insulated the fuel lines, where they run over the engine and where they attach to the carbs...

June 10th

Picked up the cowls from the paint shop, where they had been base coated, cleared and scuffed.  Mounted them to check for alignment and laid out the fine line tape for the three additional blues that will be painted on.

June 11th

Prepped the engine for it's first run-up.  Assembled the plane, tied it down and did initial start.  It started on the first blade.  Several subsequent starts were made, tweaking small squawks and listing others that need attention.  Total engine run time was 2.0 hours.  Engine speeds were from idle to full power.  Prop checked out, but will need some adjustments to the soft stops...

June 19th

Made some adjustments to the prop, then hooked up the gauges to the intake and ran up the engine to balance the carbs.  Prop was right on the money.  Adjusted carbs for idle.  Removed the gauges and cowled it up and ran it up again.  Temps are a little high, but it was 90 degrees out.  Total of 3.2 hours on the engine...

June 30th

This will be the official end of construction for N55XS.  Ran up the engine, again, today, to reset the carbs and check temps.  Made several small adjustments to various linkages, including the throttle quadrant, then applied the last of the graphics to the fuselage.  As a certain lawyer, in the movie, My Cousin Vinny, once said:  "I true wit dis guy"...  Further entries will be made after FAA inspection and first flight...
